This listing is for "The Quilts of Lovely Lane, 2006 Calendar". This calendar was sold during the Baltimore Album Quilt show that was held at that time. A nice collection of quilt images including the Mayflower Quilt, which is suspected to be the oldest known quilt in America.
ABOUT BALTIMORE ALBUM QUILT:
The development of the Baltimore Album Quilt type was unique to central Maryland and made during a remarkably brief period between 1845 and 1865. It depended upon the interaction of a large number of women of English and German heritage in an area where quantities of expensive imported fabrics and locally made textiles were readily available and unmatched in quilts from other parts of the nation. These quilts featured squares of highly complex and unique designs incorporating traditional blocks appliqued with incredibly detailed flowers, leaves, fruit, cornucopia, baskets, nautical emblems, symbols of local importance, boats, birds and animals.
