DESCRIPTION:
This listing is for a Royal Doulton character small jug: Toby Philpots, D5737. Issued 1937-1969. The figurine is in very good stored condition and measures 3 1/4" H. The box is NOT included. This jug does have crazing and there is what looks like a scratch mark down the hat on the front right side near the handle. Please see pictures.
ABOUT TOBY PHILPOTS:
A "thirsty old soul" is an 18th century drinking song, Toby is thought by some to be the source of the traditional British toby jug, in which a character sits astride a barrel of ale. Popular opinion suggests his name is a derivation of the French topé, to toast.
SPECIAL NOTE ON PICTURES: In the pictures there are reflection spots on the figurines. I will specify chips, nick, etc. Unless I specify, these spots are just reflections.
