I've decided to focus more in helping people and finding homes for unwanted items. I also am going to start selling .99 items. This will give people a change to own items without having to pay a high price. I also want to give people an opportunity to sell their crafts/items without having to do the work to list it. I know there are people who are not computer savvy or just don't have time for listing. I would be glad to help you.
DESCRIPTION:
This listing is for a Royal Doulton character small jug: Sairey Gamp, variation 1 (green band on hat, yellow/burgundy bow). This jug has the incorrect back stamp, it has a back stamp of D5451 meant for the large jug, but this is the small jug which should be D5528. It was issued 1935-1986. It measures 3" H. The name is incised in the mold on the back. It is in excellent stored condition, the box is not included.
She was a character in the novel Martin Chuzzlewit, written by Charles Dickens. She was a nurse who was disreputable, sloppy and generally drunk. She became a notorious stereotype of untrained and incompetent nurses of the early Victorian era. Also, a type of umbrella became known as a gamp because Mrs. Gamp always carried one, which she displayed with "particular ostentation". FUN FACT: the character was based upon a real nurse described to Dickens by a friend of his.
SPECIAL NOTE ON PICTURES: In the pictures there are reflection spots on the figurines. I will specify chips, nick, etc. Unless I specify, these spots are just reflections.
